The majestic words of the Declaration of Independence served as the conscience of our country and the death sentence of slavery. It was the vision of our Founders that everyone in America would have life, liberty, the opportunity to own property, and pursue happiness. However, they also understood it would be up to each individual to seize that opportunity. Prosperity would not be given or guaranteed, but earned, often with great struggle and sacrifice.
